The Lafazan for Congress campaign has announced that they will begin to accept crypto campaign donations in the coming weeks. In a recent op-ed, Nassau County Legislator and Democratic candidate for Congress in NY-3, Josh Lafazan made the argument that introducing cryptocurrency for financial transactions is the future for Nassau County.
“Blockchain technology is an enormously important innovation that is here to stay,” said Lafazan. “Our leadership in the crypto space will drive massive job creation while strengthening economic competitiveness in an increasingly global economy.”
Earlier this year, Lafazan began working on legislation in the Nassau County Legislature to create the county’s first-ever Cryptocurrency Task Force. The task force is designed to be comprised of a broad panel of industry experts charged with exploring how crypto can help bolster Nassau’s economy and modernise the broadband and wireless capabilities of Nassau’s buildings and properties.
“This task force will be truly bi-partisan, comprised of an equal number of Republicans and Democrats,” said Lafazan. “I am hopeful that this bill will be passed, making Nassau County one of the most crypto-friendly areas in the United States.”
“Josh is a common-sense Democrat who understands crypto is a growing industry and has the ability to fuel economic growth” said Chase Serota, campaign manager for Lafazan for Congress. “By empowering our campaign with the ability to accept crypto, Josh is making a statement that he will be a representative who keeps his finger on the pulse of the next wave of economic opportunities and jobs for the people of Nassau County and Queens.”
Lafazan is not alone in his ambitions to make New York the capital of cryptocurrency. Eric Adams, Mayor NYC, requested his salary in his first 90 days be converted to crypto, telling The New York Times, “New York is the center of the world, and we want it to be the center of cryptocurrency and other financial innovations,” said Mayor Adams. “Being on the forefront of such innovation will help us create jobs, improve our economy, and continue to be a magnet for talent from all over the globe.”
Once elected, Lafazan, who will be the youngest Democrat in Congress, knows that it is imperative to keep up with the fast-paced and ever-changing landscape of financial technology. As the only Congressional candidate in NY-03 accepting crypto, Lafazan is ahead of the curve when it comes to financial innovation, and he will bring this same drive to seek out innovation with him to Congress. Lafazan will also encourage other elected officials to join him in an effort to better equip New York and the United States for economic competitiveness in a crypto world.
